How to Use Social Media in Case of Emergency (audio)

This episode is part of #HiMomProject – helping older adults (65&better) to embrace social media, technology, and the online world.

Unfortunately emergency situations happen unexpectedly but what we can do is to prepare a plan just in case. With the plan it’s going to be a little easier and maybe less panic and more control.

3 Useful Tips:

  • research/get information – do your research. Join local Facebook groups, create Twitter lists with local public safety agencies, use Red Cross mobile applications, FEMA mobile application, etc.
  • share your status update – in case of emergency if you get to the place that you are safe, let your family and friends know that you are safe. In case you might need help, let people know that you need that help.
  • start planning – it’s always better to be prepared, so get together with family and friends and start planning. Start simple, so you are not going to get overwhelmed at the beginning.
