That’s it! Who do you trust more: doctors or nurses? And when I asked myself this question, the answer was simple: I trust nurses more than doctors.
And then there was a followup question: why? I just look at the healthcare system and what I see is that doctor’s visit lasts between 15-30 min. And when you stay at the hospital doctor sees you for maybe even less than 30 min. On the other hand nurses spend more time to check what’s going on with you. They get more information.
I wonder if doctor can actually get all necessary information within those 30 min visit? So why some of those doctors are not happy when people try to do the research on their own? If the visit is so short (and let’s assume that the doctor has all the blood test results, etc.) I don’t blame people to try and find some more information by themselves. And yes, internet is the place to look for the answer. And yes, not always we find the correct information but what is the other option – 15 min or 30 min visit? That’s why I am taking the chance and do some research on my own.
So, in my opinion, when the nurse is spending more time with the patient, they have more information (in some cases) than doctors.
The worst part is that at the end of the day when decision needs to be made, we trust doctors because they are telling us about the options “best for us”. And again…those options are based on those 30 min visits (+ tests of course). That’s why I still like to do a little research – you know, just to make sure 😉
